Importance of Women Prioritizing Their Health

As women, we often put others' needs before our own. We prioritize taking care of our families, our friends, and our careers over our own well-being. However, it is essential for us to remember that our health is just as important as anything else in our lives. One way to prioritize our health is by getting annual exams and checkups.


Annual exams and checkups are an essential part of preventive health care for women. They allow us to catch potential health problems early, when they are often easier to treat. In addition, they provide an opportunity for us to discuss any health concerns or questions we may have with our healthcare provider.


There are several types of annual exams and checkups that women should consider getting. These include:


  • Annual physical exam: This is a comprehensive exam that includes a review of your medical history, a physical exam, and a discussion of any health concerns or questions you may have.


  • Pap smear: This is a test to screen for cervical cancer. It is recommended that women begin getting Pap smears at age 21 and continue getting them every three years until age 65.


  • Mammogram: This is a test to screen for breast cancer. It is recommended that women begin getting mammograms at age 40 and continue getting them every one to two years.


  • Bone density test: This is a test to screen for osteoporosis, a condition in which bones become weak and brittle. It is recommended that women begin getting bone density tests at age 65.
